Mamaku

Texture: Pyrography

Named for the black tree-fern, Mamaku is a musical themed artwork, turned and carved from one piece of Pohutukawa. I added the top/bottom bridges and legs, also from Pohutukawa, and the “strings” are stainless steel wire.

Nautilus Shell

Made from segmented Zebrano (Zebra wood) with a hard Maple base supported on two 6mm brass rods.  210mm long.

Nexus 7 was turned and carved from one piece of Black Maire one of New Zealand's hardest timbers.

Base  textured surface with acrylic painted finish highlighted to add patina.

Used paint and turned it at 1500 rpm to created the web effect.

Plastic spider and preying mantis glued with super glue.

The egg came first

Wood carving representation of "Gods hand" holding the very first egg between thumb, middle finger and forefinger. It was carved from a Pokutukawa tree branch in 2022. The overall height is 270mm. The carving has been finished with a sanding sealer, two coats of Danish oil and then rubbed with Beeswax. 

The Funguy Family

A variety of timbers including oak, pohutukawa, pine, silky oak, rewa rewa, and rimu.  Depicting an individual Fungi (mushroom) with its own identity embellished with pyrography and Milliput on a Macrocarpa platter. Together they form a playful "Funguy Family".

 

The opportunities from failures!

A small bowl of Maple and Quila that failed along a glue line very near the end of the turning process. Presented on a base of Quila with brass rods incorporated to frame the presentation of the ornament. 200mm tall.
