Named for the black tree-fern, Mamaku is a musical themed artwork, turned and carved from one piece of Pohutukawa. I added the top/bottom bridges and legs, also from Pohutukawa, and the “strings” are stainless steel wire.

Nexus 7 was turned and carved from one piece of Black Maire one of New Zealand's hardest timbers.

Turned from a beautiful piece of Jarrah burl, bought back in the late 80’s in Western Australia. Turned to an even thickness of 7mm, apart from the rim, with Haarlem oil finish, pyrography and weaving.

Inspired by Pacific voyagers, this multi-axis turned piece from Black Maire has turned mast and boom, steam bent and ebonized with indian ink. The sail, turned to about 2mm thick is nicely figured Rimu.
