A planetary replication in Zebra Wood with ebony finial and foot. A bone pin ensures correct orientation of the lid. 110mm high with the body of the planet being 56mm diameter.
Paulownia Box, 130mm X 130mm. Partly burnt, brushed and dyed to expose the grain. With a burnt finial and button inside the lid. It has fairly thick walls to give weight to this very light wood.

Made entirely of Walnut. Has hinged metal insert.

Turned Kauri Wood box with a "Spinning Top" Lid. The patterned lid features a handle turned from a laminated "carnival" pen blank, while the base is concave to accommodate the top in spin mode.

Whilst inspired by the freedom of steampunk it also has elements inspired by the TV series Game of Thrones represented on the piece by my impression of leather armour. The wood has been ebonized then highlighted with gilders wax.160x200mm

Inspired by Pacific voyagers, this multi-axis turned piece from Black Maire has turned mast and boom, steam bent and ebonized with indian ink. The sail, turned to about 2mm thick is nicely figured Rimu.

Turned from East African Yellow Wood, Afrocarpus gracilior. Dimensions 124mm H x 180mm L x 165mm W. The prototype for a series of turnings using the “directional wedges” cut when felling a tree and left on the ground.
