Beauty Revealed
My ambition was to create a centre piece bowl that would unlock the beauty of this unassuming piece of red beech drift wood found on the Fiordland coast. It’s turned asymmetrically to ensure the live edge was retained. Finish: Beall. 300x120mm.
Billy tea
Inspired by a relic from a derelict hut. Made from wet turned blue gum burl, hollowed then scorched with a blow torch to create a weathered and battered look. Buffed with a scouring pad then lightly gilded with bronze gilding wax. 160x200mm
Inspired by glimpses of bamboo emerging from within a basket. Thin turned sycamore with hand drawn bamboo pattern using polycolour pencils and relief carved with orange peel pattern. Base is basket weave pyro. Finished with lacquer. 160mm X 120mm.
Inspired by a volcanic eruption but the shape is inspired by a dragon’s egg. The wood is omega plum which I have hollowed to 8mm and finished with Beall buffing system. Stands 180mm tall and is lifted by three feet.
Whilst inspired by the freedom of steampunk it also has elements inspired by the TV series Game of Thrones represented on the piece by my impression of leather armour. The wood has been ebonized then highlighted with gilders wax.160x200mm
